This is a video guide that creates an immersive experience, inviting viewers to explore a specific place in Hamburg as if they were standing there, fully immersed in its environment and context. The place is Drob Inn, a low-threshold contact and counseling service with integrated drug consumption rooms. It provides specialized support for adults with substance use disorder (SUD) and is a state-recognized facility. Located in Hamburg's St. Georg district near Central Station, Drob Inn serves as a vital support center for the local open drug scene, offering accessible services without lengthy journeys. However, in April 2024, local authorities installed a fence in front of the facility to separate the Drob Inn courtyard from the sidewalk. This measure aimed to "revitalize" the actively used green space and improve pedestrian use of the pavement, while also providing limited visual protection. This video guide invites viewers to peek behind the fence and engage in a dialogue about social distance and its ethical implications, exploring the complex dynamics between public space, community needs, and marginalized groups.
